It’s been a busy month, but the team at Hearts and Hands for Cambodia wanted to give you a quick update on what’s happening at the Sobbhana Center!
This month, Dr. Sourn Monika and her Swiss dental team visited. They examined all the children and staff and did fillings, sealants, and extractions as needed. Overall, they provided dental care for 80 people! Dr. Monika and her team also donated toothbrushes and toothpaste. Click here to see pictures of their visit.
During story time, we’re doing a great job paying attention and are able to remember details of the story. The 4-6 year olds are working on their consonants, because they will need to know them all when they graduate to primary school in November. The 3-4 year olds are working on learning the shape of the consonants, and practicing speaking skills by singing songs. The teachers are working on finding ways to encourage everyone to enjoy studying and value working!
It rained almost every day this month, so the playground was very muddy and the kids had to be careful. Some of the children got colds, and a few got dengue fever and missed class for two weeks. Our staff did home visits for all of the sick children to make sure they and their families had everything they needed.
This month we also fixed torn pillowcases, repaired the tent that provides shade for the play area, and planted more trees for fencing.
Next month, we want to prepare more teaching materials and visit the homes of our three new students to get to know their families. We would appreciate any donations you could make to our center. All donations go towards the Sobbhana Day Care Center to help pay for food, teacher’s salaries, and hygiene materials. In July, we ate 155kg of rice – that’s over 340 pounds! Any donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. Our center is running out of funds, and we need your help! If you would like to make a donation, or set up a monthly donation plan, you can go to our website at heartsandhandsforcambodia.org, or click here.
Thank you for your kindness and continued support!
